The Guardian

"Considered one of the more noteworthy gastropubs in the overpopulated foodie heartland of Islington. the roast courgette, tomatoes, wild mushrooms and courgette blossom was exploding with taste, a testament to the quality ingredients."

"I ordered artichoke with duck egg mayonnaise, on the long-held female principle that you should always have what you can't bear to prepare yourself. The result was grade-A artichokery, with its rich, sinful accompaniment and plaudits from the guest of honour for sprats. the Speyside beef, which a neighbouring table were devouring with appreciation, was heralded as "lovingly reared". it should be a real credit crunch tip for Islington gentlefolk fallen on hard times."

“The Marquess Tavern strikes me as being one of the best gastropubs London has to offer… everyting a good gastro should be: friendly and cosy, but with food that’s massively better than your average pub. The Marquess Tavern is the sort of place autumn evenings were made for.”

“The Marquess Tavern reopens this week after being taken over and refurbished by five regulars whove resolved to keep it a proper pub with cosy snug, log fires, great beers and a piano for impromptu sing-songs.”
